Nick has created a number of kids’ spaces, for family homes as well as kindergartens and schools. Each one gets highly individual treatment – a lot depends on the age of the kids, their interests and how much use the space will get.
In this image (left), the challenge was to take a hot and exposed area and make it usable in any weather. Nick created a cubby-like space that also gets used as a reading nook filled with cushions.
It’s important for kids’ spaces to be fun and engaging, and planted with safe vegetation with interesting colour and textures. Outdoor play is a chance for kids to be free of the confines of buildings and artificial lighting, out in in open air with the weather, elements and smells of the outdoors.
