This project was carried out by Nick. A tiny garden in proportion to the rest of the site, this complete upgrade includes a cosy space for meals and entertaining. This required removing all existing decking (with some gas and water lines lowered to accommodate the new site levels) and installing astro turf in lieu of real grass, as the site does not receive adequate sunlight for living turfs.
Nick’s preferred astro turf product is one called ‘Lush’, a 35mm long bristle that has about a 20% mix of brown into the green for a more natural look. The astro turf is interspersed with natural stone paving steppers to break up the solid green colour and for a more natural effect.
The old tin fence was given a Cyprus Pine timber overlay with randomised lengths, widths and depths for a quirky effect, and installed with red, green and blue LED lights for evening atmosphere. Lighting was also added to small pockets of plants, and single spot lights were installed at the base of each palm for a touch of drama.
Hanging baskets were planted with trailing lotus, an evergreen groundcover with lovely silvery-green foliage and scarlet, pea-shaped flowers.
The large format timber table and bench seat where cut from a single piece of River Red Gum. All timbers have been coated in two coats of Osmo Oil.
